90s Teenagers VS Today’s Teens
The 90s were a lot of fun for the teenagers of that time.
The technology was not yet developed enough, so the youth spent most of their time outside, with friends, listening to music or talking about their collections of CDs or magazines that were popular at that time.
On the other hand, the new generation of young people (Gen Z) spend their time constantly on the Internet through their technological devices, rarely going out with friends.
For an example:
- Not having a mobile device with us
90s kids would try to memorize their friend’s landline, so they could call them at any time of the day, using any public phone they could find. Today, teenagers might know maybe two mobile numbers– their own and their mum’s, perhaps.
Our phones can store thousands of numbers, why bother trying to remember some digits?
Today, anybody leaving the house without their mobile would be presumed to be taking a “mental health walk”. Teenagers of the 90s, though, would meander around the streets with no portable device in their hand; just a sense of direction and a time to be home for tea.
- Waiting in long lines to buy concert tickets (in person)
To go to a concert, you had to go to the venue to wait in line, to buy a ticket in person. Nowadays, you can buy tickets for any concert, online, easily, quickly and without bothering. Тoday’s youth don’t have the nerve to wait in long queues just for a ticket.
3. Buying magazines dedicated to celeb style or haircuts
As I previously mentioned, technology and the internet were still in their early stages, so if you wanted to get inspiration for a style or haircut, you needed to rip those pictures of the magazines. Magazines were the only way to know what was going on in the lives of celebrities and the only place you could see a tutorial on how to imitate a celebrity’s look. Today’s teens don’t even think to look at fashion magazines, because celebrities have public profiles on all social networks where they have many followers who get inspiration from their online photos.
Technology has changed many things.
Today’s young people don’t even know about CDs and CD players, cassettes, corded telephones or black-and-white cameras and TVs.
The 90s teens couldn’t even imagine the many new technological inventions, but they had some goodies of their time that brought them fun and joy.
The 90s and the present are special in their own way, each fun and with its own recognizable moments and things.
What do you think: Were the 90s a better time to live in, or is it now?
