Why Don’t Teenagers Read More Books?
Some people find reading difficult or boring. They’d rather do other physical activities or explore other media. People are more visually oriented and prefer getting the story through the action and visuals of a movie/video rather than reading the book itself.
Some people don’t read, simply because they haven’t found the right book. Anyone can like reading, if they know what to look for. Because the fact is that everyone has different tastes.
There are so many different kinds of books to like: classics, fantasy, adventure, action, poetry, romance, biographies, historical even textbooks if that’s your thing. You have to like something; you’d be a very boring person if you didn’t. Even if reading thick, hardback books isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other types of medium out there like magazines, newspaper, articles, short stories, etc.
I personally like reading and I started reading since I was 4 years old. Other than school books, I have read Diary of Wimpy Kid and stories in Wattpad. I can accept that reading may not be for everyone. However, I do mind people take pride in hating to read. For whatever reason reading has become “uncool” or “nerdy”.
We may be living in the digital age, but reading books is still a big part of growing up. And the books that young people read and how difficult they are can have a massive impact on their ability to understand exam questions, tell fake news apart from real news and get informed and involved in society.
