This course is intended for students who are willing to explore the cultural heritage and the natural treasures of Macedonia and improve their communication and creative skills by creating digital video and audio presentations and stories with a combined use of English and Macedonian languages.

STUDENT AGE: 10-16 yo

COURSE DURATION: 5 weeks (two hours per week, timetables will be determined after forming the groups)

AIM: developing students’ communicative, presentation, digital, creative, and narrative skills

TOPIC: exploring the cultural heritage of Macedonia in a creative and fun way

WORKING LANGUAGES: Macedonian/English

DIGITAL TOOLS: Zoom, Edmodo, Padlet, Nearpod, Flipgrid.

ACTIVITIES:

Virtual Expedition – Exploring Macedonia: a virtual tour with 360-degree images, visiting some of the most significant sights such as the Stone Bridge and the Fort in Skopje, the Matka Canyon, Samuil’s Fortress in Ohrid, Arabati-baba Teke in Tetovo, the Black Drin River in Struga, the Kokino Observatory, the Vevcani Springs, the Golem Grad Island in Prespa, etc. Knowledge check fun quiz on the landmarks visited during the virtual tour.

Video Greeting – Hello from Macedonia: brief intro to presentation skills, selection of a favourite site or landmark in Macedonia, preparation of a text, photos and other settings for recording a short video blog, recording the video greetings, and sharing them on Padlet (digital platform).

Time Travelers’ Diary – Macedonia’s Hidden Gems: exploring the cultural heritage of Macedonia’s past (Ilinden, Ottoman, Byzantine, Ancient and Neolithic periods) and a time-travel simulation (students come across a portal that takes them on a ‘journey through time’ where they enliven a certain historical period). Preparing a text for the Time Тravelers’ Diary, and publishing the stories on Padlet (digital platform).

Myths and Legends – The Dragon and the Maiden: exploring myths and legends about the names of some of Macedonia’s cities, storytelling of a legend about the Dragon and the Maiden (Marko Cepenkov), preparing sequels to the legend, recording audio-narratives, and sharing them on Padlet.

A Digital Postcard from Macedonia: preparing a design for a digital postcard from Macedonia, creating QR codes to share the links from the common digital platform Padlet, or from websites with contents related to Macedonia’s cultural heritage.

Awarding certificates for participation in the course.

Classes are held in groups of 10-15 students for a period of five weeks after the groups are formed.
