Video Games In The 90s

Video Games in the 90s

The 1990s was the third decade in the video games industry history. It was the decade of the transition from sprite-based graphics to 3D graphics and it gave rise to many genres like first-person shooter, survival horror, MMO and more. From the early to late 1990s, the arcade game had a big decline and home consoles became way more popular. Popular consoles in the 1990s were Super Nintendo, PlayStation, Nintendo 64 and other.

The decade had many notable video games, such as Super Mario 64 which came out in 1997 by Nintendo, Half-Life that came in 1998, Sonic the Hedgehog that came out in 1991, Street Fighter ll and Super Mario Kart that both came out in 1992. These are just some of the great games that came out in the 1990s, but there are many more.

When Nintendo released the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, it sent a shockwave through the world of gaming, as video games experienced a crash in North America during 1983. But Nintendo’s massive success inspired other companies to do the same thing, resulting in a rivalry between Nintendo and SEGA, which by the ’90s had grown rather heated.

As part of SEGA’s marketing campaign for their new console, the Sega Genesis, they came up with a so-bad-its-good slogan: Genesis Does What Nintendon’t, and used it to push both their exclusive games as well as titles they believed looked better on their console than on the SNES.

As a Gen Z person, have you ever heard of any of these games? Would you like to try them out?
