Why Earth Day Is Important
April 22nd is the day that we celebrate Earth Day, and it is a very special day to make people aware about the environment and the planet. Some people celebrate this day as any other holiday, but Earth Day is very significant. This day reminds us that the world needs us and it inspires people to make the world a better place than it is now.
Earth Day began at a national level in 1970, when millions of people living in America collectively decided to stop the pollution, felling of trees, and other issues weakening the world environment. The day began creating an awareness among the people about such issues, so that people can bring a change to save Earth for their sake. With time, Earth Day was enforced everywhere in the world, and presently everyone around the globe participates.
The reason why Earth Day is important is that the world is threatened. The world is afflicted by many diseases like pollution, global warming, cutting down trees, and many others. The biggest of all the problems is the pollution that gets worse day by day, oceans and landfills getting filled up with plastic material. Global warming is melting the planet, and natural disasters are happening more. Worst of all, more and more animals are starting to lose their homes because trees are being cut down, wildfires and even some of the animals are starting to become extinct. One of the best things about Earth Day is that it creates small changes leading up to large changes.
Here are some of the things one can do in order to contribute: Reduce, Reuse, recycle.
- Recycling reduces the levels of waste disposed of into landfills and oceans. Recycling and buying recycled products prevents waste and helps conserve resources, and reducing usage of plastic ensures that there will be no pollution.
- Planting Trees: The world requires trees to purify the air and offer shelter for animals. Having even one plant can be helpful.
- Small actions such as turning off the tap during brushing your teeth or saving water while washing dishes can make a huge difference in conserving the precious resource.
- Spread Awareness: The more people are educated about conserving the Earth, the more they will conserve it. Earth is our home and we don’t have a planet B.
If we do not start taking care of it better, then we might not have a healthy world to live in the next couple of years. Earth Day reminds us that it is all in our hands to change. One person cannot do much, but if all the people start taking the matter in their hands it can change day by day. Therefore this year, we are not allowed to take Earth day off work as a school holiday. We must take things seriously, and take note of the fact that we must help the world to make it more habitable in order to stay on it.
