Student Voice Members’ Trips
These past few weeks, we, the members of Pegasus Student Voice, have had our hands full with interviews and presentations. I will cover the most important ones in the paragraphs below.
On December 4th, we had the privilege of visiting the Mathematics and Informatics high school(MIG) in Skopje, upon an invitation from our member Emily, who is a student there. We held a presentation about how we manage a student-led magazine. We also got to know a little bit about the school and about the students. Some of us even made new friends along the way. When we presented, we showed them how we choose and research the topics, forge our articles, how we get inspired and get ideas from our teachers, meet up every now and then to discuss our topics and such, promote our work to reach audiences, and much more. The students and teachers at MIG were very fascinated with our student-led magazine, and we’re thrilled to be their inspiration for starting their own school magazine and a media club. We hope that someday MIG and Pegasus Student Voice will collaborate on some articles.
Some of you might have heard about the global campaign: 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which begins on November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) and lasts until December 10 (International Human Rights Day). If not, I would direct you to the Women’s Forum in Tetovo for further questions. For this very reason, some of our young journalists had the opportunity to visit the Women’s Forum Association in Tetovo, to learn more about the campaign and, of course, to support the efforts to end violence against women and girls. One of our members, Lena, invited us to the Women’s Forum which her mom is a part of. She was happy to answer all the questions asked by us for our magazine. As a male I feel that more men should be involved in these types of campaigns, so that we know how to support women, and end violence.
Sadly, not a lot of people in our town feel the same, but we hope that in the years that will come something will change the way we think. The color orange has been chosen as a symbol for a brighter future without violence. Let’s orange the world.
All in all, it was a pleasure to go to the Women’s Forum and learn about and support the act of stopping violence against all women. We are focusing on promoting media literacy and raising awareness about social issues such as domestic violence, and gender inequality.
