Major Natural Disasters of 2024: A Year of Extreme Weather

This year, the world experienced many major natural disasters, including floods, wildfires and powerful storms. These events show how important it is to try and prevent some of these disasters. We also need to help the people affected by them, as they need a lot of support and a long recovery time.

In North America, wildfires burned through large areas in Canada, while Europe also struggled with dangerous fires, especially in the Mediterranean. These fires were made worse by extreme heat and dry weather, which are becoming more common due to climate change.

In Asia, strong typhoons hit the Philippines and Japan, causing a lot of flooding, wind damage and even landslides. At the same time, East Africa faced an extreme drought, resulting in people not having enough food or water.

One of the biggest and most talked-about storms this year was Hurricane Milton. This storm formed in the Atlantic Ocean in mid-September and quickly became very strong. It first hit the Caribbean, causing major flooding and damage to homes and businesses. After that, it moved towards the southern U.S. coast, but luckily it changed direction and didn’t hit as hard as predicted. Still, Milton wreaked havoc and stood as a reminder of how dangerous hurricanes can be.
