Duolingo: Fun Way to Learn a New Language
Learning new languages can be hard especially when you don’t have fun with it. To make learning fun you can try using technology in the classroom, or you can study from home using your laptop, phone, computer, etc. So now there are many apps that can help you learn new languages in a fun way. Some of them are: Babbel, Memrise, Hello talk, Busuu. But, the most popular of them all is Duolingo. Duolingo offers courses on music, math, but it’s most popular for offering 43 languages. The name of this platform comes from the two latin words “duo” which means “two” and “lingua” meaning “tongue” or “language”. This app’s mascot is a green owl named “Duo”. This owl has become an iconic symbol of the app because he motivates the users through their learning journey making it feel less hard. Duolingo is a great starting point for learning new languages and can help you build a solid foundation in a new language. However, you can’t learn to speak a language fluently only by using the app.
One of Duolingo’s many good features is its engaging interface. This language learning app makes the process of learning into a game, making it easy and fun being able to learn new languages. It also makes you wanna learn more every day because the users earn points for correct answers, race against the clock, and level up as they progress through the lessons. There are also streaks that make Duolingo addictive, so you have to learn something new every day or you lose the streak.
While some people enjoy using the app and its approach, many express frustrations that contribute to their decision to quit, like: lack of motivation, time constraints, difficulty of the levels, their goals and expectations of the app, technical issues, etc. Also, some people don’t recommend using Duolingo because it gives you sentences that have no real meaning and context. They say that because you will be spending time memorizing random sentences instead of useful common expressions and phrases that can be used in real life.
Overall, I think that Duolingo is such a great app for learning new languages and can be used by everyone who wants to have fun while learning something new.
